With 19 km of coastline and 26 very different beaches to enjoy, you will almost certainly be able to find the beach of your choice. Almost every type of beach possible is represented here, from the long and wide, to little covelets and bays, some of which can only be reached by boat.
The temperature in Almuñecar during the winter is at an average of 18C and in the summer 25C, although in August the noon temerature can reach over 30C.
Puerta del Mar Almuñecar's most popular beach, it runs parallel with with the front of the town, along a row of shops, restaurants and bars.
Velilla Beach Almuñecar's biggest beach and one of its busiest. The beach is almost 2 km long and the sand is darker and more coarse than on some of the other beaches in Almuñecar.
El Tesorillo One of Almuñecar's prettiest beaches. It is protected by rocks and watched over by the ancient Moorish tower. The beach takes its name from, El Tesorillo (The Little Treasure), because of a small bag of gold coins that was found hidden in the rocks at the water's edge.
Cantarrijan The westernmost of Almuñecar's beaches and a naturist beach. Situated under the cliffs of the Cerro Gordo nature reserve, the beach is made up of both fine and coarse sand. The scuba diving here is excellent, there are underwater caves just offshore, which are a favorite of the European diving scene. Cantarrijan beach has two restaurants, from which you can rent big umbrellas and sunbeds. Access to Cantarrijan beach is by a steep pathway that joins the coast's main road. |
